Active Children Portland

Transforming Communities Through Education, Health, and Community.

Active Children Portland offers equitable access to after-school programming centered around academic enrichment, physical wellness, and mentorship in order to empower youth in building healthy communities.

Active Children Portland began in 2011 with the goal of supporting and transforming communities by serving school-aged children during after-school programming. Programs across the city focus on providing students from kindergarten through eighth grade with the opportunity to engage in physical movement, academic enrichment opportunities, and nutrition and health learning.

By partnering with culturally specific community partners, Active Children Portland is able to provide high-quality instruction and mentorship in order to help students develop confidence and a strong sense of self, build leadership experience, and most importantly nurture a sense of belonging and community.

Currently, Active Children Portland serves over 30 school sites in the Portland-Metro Area and over 1,200 elementary and middle school youth. Programming is 100% free for youth and families and we provide our partners with all equipment and materials as well as our highly qualified and trained coach-mentors.

As we continue to expand to serve more partner schools in our communities, we aim to remove access and opportunity barriers specifically for girls, non-binary and gender expansive youth, and youth of color.
