Mission, Vision, and Impact

Active Children Portland (ACP) works to address inequities in youth wellness and academics. We do this by providing mentor-led after-school programming for underserved kids right here in our own community in the Portland Metro area.

We know that there are significant barriers in access to sports, mentorship and equitable education. That impact is felt particularly by BIPOC and low-income students in Portland as reduced budgets in lower income schools result in larger class sizes and cuts to enrichment programs.

ACP’s programs help to bridge these gaps and focus on developing the life skills that each child needs to succeed in school and beyond. Our mission is to empower students to lead healthy lives, succeed academically, and inspire positive community engagement. This objective is accomplished through after-school soccer, nutrition, creative writing and service learning and delivered four days per week, 30 weeks a year, keeping kids active, healthy and engaged in a positive, safe and stable after-school environment.

Our programming is provided at no-cost to families, schools and the communities we serve. Instead, we rely entirely on individual, corporate and private foundation support.

Our Vision: Active Children Portland’s vision is to achieve true equity in health, wellness and academia for every child and build a diverse community of thoughtful leaders, caring and inclusive neighbors that breaks generational poverty.
