Active Children Portland’s programming is based on a community-focused approach. We know that after-school programs like ours help keep kids safe, improve school attendance, physical, social and emotional well-being, behavior and grades. By providing a positive, safe and stable after-school environment, our kids are able to work with community-based mentors to develop the life skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Supporting programs like Active Children Portland is an investment in our community’s health, strength, and future. According to Oregon ASK – Afterschool & Summer for Kids Network – every $1 invested in afterschool programs leads to a $4.60 return on investment. The benefits and outcomes of participation translates to $569,357,811 returned to Oregon, including savings on reduced grade repetition, higher graduation, lower health care costs associated with obesity, and a more skilled workforce.
ACP receives no local or federal funding, instead relying entirely on individual, corporate and private foundation support. As a small, locally-based nonprofit, it is important to us that our programming is not only grounded in the needs and cultures of our community, but also that it receives direct support from the community where the kids and families that we serve live, work and go to school.
